How To Avoid Falling Out Of Love In Marriage
Our society has ingrained the concept of upgrading into
our lifestyles. We are constantly encouraged to upgrade our cell phones, desktop computers, laptops, cameras,
cars, and even our homes for something newer and better.
With divorce rates sky rocketing, it seems as if people have taken this concept of
upgrading one step further and applied to non-material items, such as their marriage (That’s right! Step right up
and trade your old spouse for a newer and better one!). When you live in such a society, it is natural to wonder
how to resist the temptation to upgrade.
The good news is you have the power to keep your marriage together. Here are some
things to keep in mind so you can avoid falling out of love in marriage.

No early upgrades
For anything without a contract (i.e. computer, cameras), upgrading is as simple as
find a newer and better one that you like and having the money or credit to buy it. For items with a contract (i.e.
cell phone, car, house with mortgage), you may have to wait until the contract is fulfilled before upgrading or pay
a penalty for an early upgrade. Think of your marriage vows as a contract.
When is your contract fulfillment date? “Until death do us part,” remember?
In marriage, there is no upgrade option. Divorce is similar to breaking your
contract and the early upgrade penalty can be quite hefty, financially and emotionally. To avoid falling out of
love in marriage, remember that your vows are a contract and there are consequences for breaking the
contract.
Where the grass is greener
The next thing to remember in order to avoid falling out of love is newer does not
always mean better. People often think that once they get divorced all of their problems will go away. True, your
marital problems will go away.
However, being divorced comes with a whole new set of problems. You may have a
custody battle if you have children or have to look for a new place to live because your ex got the house or be in
debt because of the costs of divorce or have to deal with different problems in your new relationship.
So, is the grass really greener on the other side? Not really. It will serve you
much better to work on improving your marriage so that the grass is always greener on your side of the
fence.
It’s all about expectations
Life after marriage is definitely no where near happily ever after. In fact, the
quickest way to experience falling out of love in marriage is to go in it with such unrealistic expectations.
Instead, marriage is filled with mountain top highs and valley lows.
The key to surviving the lows and not fall out of love is to remember that you and
your spouse will be there to help each other get through it. While you cannot expect everything to always go well,
you can expect your spouse to stand by you when things don’t go so well.
